I’m not a deep-seated cricket lover, but when it comes to Dhoni, it all makes me exuberant towards cricket. The way MS Dhoni defined the meaning of accomplishments, it righteously deserves to be termed as an era on his own. A legacy that is probably not possible to inherit by any other cricketer. A class that has no replica.
The decorum of style and grace that Mahendra Singh Dhoni conveys is an uncluttered possession that needs no laundry. From Goalkeeper “Mahi” to Wicketkeeper “Mahendra Singh Dhoni”
Born on 7th July 1981 in Ranchi, Jharkhand (then Bihar) Mahendra Singh Dhoni fondly called “Mahi” was an avid fan of Sachin Tendulkar and Adam Gilchrist. Since his childhood, he desired to be a cricketer but as we all know getting into a national cricket team is not a piece of cake. Hence, it was not easy for him.
As a child, Dhoni was involved in playing football and he was a goalkeeper in the team. Through his excellent goalkeeping skills, his football coach sent him to the local cricket academy where he contributed his team as a wicketkeeper.
Followed by his brilliant game, Dhoni was then kept as a constant wicketkeeper from 1995 to 1998 at the Commando cricket club. Meanwhile, he also served Indian Railways as Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) from 2001 to 2003 at Kharagpur Railway station, West Bengal.
Later, he was selected by former Bihar cricket association president and Ranchi district cricket President, Deval Sahay. He gave Dhoni a chance to play for the Bihar team, Ranchi team, and then the Bihar Ranji team. At the age of 18 Dhoni played for Bihar Ranji team, where he performed well, moving ahead, he played for Jharkhand team, India-A team and then finally made his debut in 2004 against Bangladesh. However, in his first match, he was unable to flaunt his magic and got run out for a duck. Not for long could luck stop the diamond from shining.
Dhoni’s Path Breaking Captaincy
The world knows that Mahendra Singh Dhoni holds the record of winning all the 3 prestigious ICC trophies. With his rock-solid vision and prolific attitude he led the Indian Cricket Team masterfully and gave us innumerable memories to celebrate. With his brilliance and wisdom, soon people who never watched cricket started enjoying it.
Dhoni has played the highest number of international games as a captain which stands at 332. Adheres to the record of highest individual ODI scorer as a wicketkeeper-batsman, he was not out at 183*. And well, the one and only batsman to deliver the World Cup with a dazzling 6 (sixer). He clinched the World Cup with his famous helicopter shot (not to forget this shot was taught by his childhood friend Santosh).
During MS Dhoni’s captaincy India became number 1 in test matches, he is the first Indian captain to win ODI bilateral series in New Zealand. In addition to this, he won tri-series in Australia and many more. His preeminence is not just limited to International Cricket; he also occupies the record of winning most of the IPL matches in his Chennai Super kings team after Mumbai Indians.
MS Dhoni and His Down-To-Earth Lifestyle
India’s captain cool has always been the calmest and composed person. Be it on the cricket field or off ground. He has maintained tranquil and placid living without any exception. One can firmly see MS Dhoni’s approach to announce his retirement. He released an IGTV video of 4.07 minutes on Instagram. Therein he captioned “Thanks a lot for your love and support throughout from 1929hrs considered me as retired”.
The video captured all the special pictures perfectly fitting with the song “main pal do pal ka shayar hun”. Fans were little destitute with his retirement but at the same Dhoni’s sober way announcement yet again won the people’s heart.
Mahi has also been found cleaning his cars and bikes on his own. He is earnestly seen playing with his pets, all away from the limelight. It is believed that Dhoni has once made sure that he is not noticed by the paparazzi or comes under the sight of any media while serving food “Langar” in a Gurudwara of Ranchi. He had tightened his security so that his activity does not get any media coverage. Yes, such is the modesty of our captain cool. Although, with all the possible success and fame, MS Dhoni has kept his life sheer and simple. Yet, his introvert personality never keeps him afar from his fans. Once his female fan screamed his name and then, Dhoni, instead of ignoring her stopped there and ensures to oblige his fan with a cute selfie.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s retirement is perhaps a poignant reminder to the entire nation. But his 16 glorious years of career has certainly enriched us with countless memories.
